Hey Reader, Summer....vacation...and road trips! I bought a pre-owned camper van last year, as a big company, Escape Camper Vans, went out of business. They were selling their entire fleet of vans, so I got a screaming deal on a van that I absolutely love. It's funky, hilarious, and looks like a van that drove straight out of a Cheech and Chong flick---because of the wrap that's on it. Now, every van that Escape rented had a theme. I don't think the artist quite hit this one on the nose. The theme is supposed to be "Steampunk Submarine", but it more looks like, "Squid and Octopus battling it out for Ocean Territory!" This is what happens when an artist or creative doesn't have a focused vision for their work. And that's precisely what happens to authors who don't have their book fleshed out, with a focus, avatar (reader), and message in mind before they start writing their book. ππΎπππΎπππΎπππΎπππΎπππΎπππΎπππΎπππΎ π Did You Know? πππΎπππΎπππΎπππΎπππΎπππΎπππΎπππΎ πππΎ Our new Skool community has over 60 members! β Join our complimentary monthly coaching calls and Author's Brew coffee chats if you're looking for author support. π Are You Starting with a Blank Canvas or Blank Page Anxiety? πI often hear professionals tell me they have a book inside them. They have so many ideas they don't know where to start. And I get it, I'm an ideator, and have more ideas that I can write about in two lifetimes, but here's the aspect I want you to focus on: what is the most important question or painpoint your followers have? Answer that question and you'll come up with your next book topic! You may have to niche it down, find a sub-topic, or develop your own framework or process that is unique to you, and you've got the basis for your book. Still confused? I recently published "From Idea to Outline in One Weekend," specifically for professionals like you. Busy, experienced, full of ideas, and ready to finally write a book for your followers. Your book idea has been waiting long enough. Grab your copy today! π π βοΈ π π βοΈ π π βοΈ π π βοΈ π π βοΈβ¨ Let's go deeper into crafting your book ideaβ¨β How do I know which of my ideas is the right one to turn into a book? Start with your audience, not your idea. Ask yourself what question your followers, clients, or colleagues ask you most often. The topic that keeps coming up in your conversations, your inbox, and your coaching sessions is almost always the book that needs to be written. Your readers are already telling you what they need. You just have to listen. β What if my topic feels too broad or too similar to books that already exist? That is where niching comes into play. You do not need to cover every aspect of your idea: you need to cover a highly focused topic, for the right reader, through your specific lens. Your experience, your process, and your perspective are what make the book yours. Find the sub-topic that sits at the intersection of what your audience needs and what only you can deliver, and you have a book no one else can replicate. β What if I don't have a framework or process yet, just a collection of ideas? That collection is your raw material, not your finished product. Look for the pattern inside your ideas. Chances are they are already organized around a central theme you have not named yet. Give that theme a structure, a sequence, or a set of steps your reader can follow, and your ideas stop being a pile and start being a book. π‘Final Thoughts: The book inside you is not hiding; it's waiting for you to get specific. You do not need more ideas, you need to identify the one idea that your audience is actively searching for and that you are uniquely positioned to answer. When you stop trying to write and explain your entire vertical and commit to writing the most useful idea, the path from idea to finished manuscript gets a great deal shorter. Start there, and the rest will follow. π Hungry for more insights? βCheck out Episode 62: Transform Your Expertise into a Best Selling Book, where I dive into the basics of how to niche down your big idea into a book idea. πππ― πππ― πππ― πππ― πππ― πππ― πππ― πππ― πππ― π€ Client Testimonial of the Week A new author, Reygan, needed clarity on a book she was writing. Hey Reader, Gardening, gardening, gardening. Lots of tomatoes, purple potatoes, string beans and sunflowers. I've been eating watermelon gazpacho with the fresh tomatoes and basil from my garden. Now that we've talked veggie power, let's dive into this week's newsletter! ππ π ππ π ππ π ππ π You know what I noticed? π π π π π ππ π ππ π π That authors who receive...
Hey Reader, If you like a great dystopian story, with so many plot twists you're having to watch every recap to keep up with the story line, then I would highly recommend watching SILO on Apple TV. Not giving away any spoilers, but I will say this: The actress they chose for the main protagonist, Juliette, is phenomenal, as are many of the cast members. They are truly believable! Excellent plot, fabulous acting, and a world so immersive you'll find yourself thinking about it long after the...
Hey Reader, Gardening, and finding the right plants for your garden, can be tricky. Sometimes I feel more like a scientist doing an experiment than a gardener! Luckily, you eventually find out what works by trial and error, and gathering data. Using native plants is also helpful, but you need to figure out which plants work for your garden, how much you want to invest, and which plants are the most attractive. Then you have a short-list of plants you want to maintain, taking the guesswork out...
